As Salamu Alaikum (Peace Be Upon You)
Welcome and thank you for visiting the Cedar Rapids Islamic Center Website. Our Muslim community have been proud citizens of Cedar Rapids since the early 1900’s. On June 16,1934 the first Islamic house of worship was dedicated at 1335 9th Street NW in Cedar Rapids. Today the site greets visitors from across the country as a Historical Center known as the “Mother Mosque”. In March of 1972 the present Cedar Rapids Islamic Center at 2999 First Avenue SW was dedicated to serve the growing Muslim community. Our diverse congregation is comprised of thirty plus ethnic backgrounds. We take pride in maintaining the respectful image we have earned within the Cedar Rapids community over the last 100 years. Through interfaith dialogue and community outreach our goal is to continue this tradition. We look forward to extending our hospitality and welcome your visit.
Wishing you Peace and Friendship,
Fatima Igram Smejkal, Chairperson
Board of Directors
